The Rio Live feature has been automatically added to users’ friend lists and shows a variety of pictures and videos taken in the Brazilian city
It is supposed to help capture the mood as billions around the world look forward to the World Cup final.
However, Snapchat’s attempt to join in the fun ahead of Germany v Argentina appears to have backfired.
The app – which allows people to send pictures to friends before they are deleted – has added a feature today called Rio Live 2014.
It is automatically added to the friend lists of users and shows a variety of pictures and videos taken in the Brazilian city.
But it has infuriated many users who have taken out their anger on Twitter.
Jose Tirado wrote: “This Rio Live thingy on Snapchat might be the dumbest thing I have ever seen.”
Another user, Jake Sutton added: “When the hell did I add Rio Live on Snapchat?” while Faz added: “I was very confused when I saw the Rio Live thing on Snapchat. How did it get there?”
The feature has been added ahead of tonight’s World Cup final between Germany and Argentina.
