The tech giant’s rumoured September release could allow users to track the temperature, altitude and air pressure wherever they go

The iPhone 6 may be able to track weather according to codes found within its operating system.
Yet-to-be-released iOS 8 includes frameworks for a barometer, meaning it would be able to predict the atmosphere around the device.
This would allow users to track the weather, altitude and air pressure wherever they go.
The discovery was made by Apple-tracking website 9to5Mac which spotted multiple references to the feature when analysing the operating system.
It was then tested by FutureTap developer Ortwin Gentz who tried to add the information onto Apple’s most recent handset, the iPhone 5s.
He later tweeted that the current model returned the code, showing that it was incompatible.
There could be many benefits if the iPhone 6 was to be fitted with the component, including increased battery life and location services.
With an accurate knowledge of the atmosphere around it, the phone would not need to carry out as many calculations to track the GPS.
The gadget could also be an asset to runners, cyclists and hikers as its ability to analyse microclimates would help them plan their sessions.
By measuring air pressure, barometers are a staple part of meteorology and are the most accurate way to determine local weather.
If available for use on the iPhone 6, it would be the first time that the tech giant has ventured into this area with one of its devices.
Once the framework is rolled out it will likely be used on Apple’s other products such as the iPad and the forthcoming iWatch.
Will Apple’s iPhone 6 be the best phone out there?
Recently, a Taiwanese supply chain claimed that the rumoured 5.5-inch larger-size iPhone 6 screen will be made from Sapphire Glass.
Such a screen would make the device resistant to scratches.
The standard-sized model, which will increase from the iPhone 5’s 4in to 4.7in, is set to be made from the Gorilla Glass 3 standard for Apple products.
While time will tell what the new model will feature, a series of ‘leaked’ images have already sparked the imagination of tech fans.
A dummy version of the handset has been making the rounds online and is seemingly the same in every picture.
Those in the possession of the device have already posted pictures allowing for a size comparison against the HTC One M8.
Prior to that images showed the phone going up against the Samsung Galaxy S5.
Among several other recently released ‘leaked’ pics of Apple’s latest device, Australian blogger Sonny Dickson tweeted images of the two different sizes expected.
Last week, Weibo user Jimmy Lin also posted pictures of the new phone – which you can see in the below gallery – including the two differently sized versions.
That fuelled speculation that Apple will look to compete in the phablet market with a 5.5in-screen model.
The Taiwanese pop star previously leaked images of the iPad Mini which turned out to be authentic.
While a plan for the phone’s launch is yet to even be announced, rumours have September 19 as a likely release date.
